Christmas Party (December 22) Freshmen Class 2

This is the first Christmas party of a week filled with parties. Since I am an American, I felt it was important for my students to share in one of America's most important cultural events - Christmas. Besides, having a class Christmas party is always fun and the students love them.

The class is at 0800, Monday morning, so festivities started early for me this Christmas season. The students were given the task of organizing their party after researching the idea of Christmas Party. The highlight of each party is and should be the exchange of gifts.

I arrived fairly early to find Mr. Yao prepping the computer for the upcoming event. Merry Christmas, Mr. Yao!

At a few minutes after 0800, Mr. Taunis got things started with a welcoming speech and a Merry Christmas greeting. This was going to be a great party! I knew from Mr. Taunis' great greetings.

Before the official start of the celebrations, ample snacks were given each students. Snacks, Chinese style, included peanuts, crackers, candy and other treats. The students started snacking well before the official start of their Christmas Party.

Here Mr. Taunis introduces one of our own celebrities, Ms. Giselle. Mr. Owen and her did a great Christmas Carol to start the entertainment.

Accompanying some of the singing was our own musician off to the side. Plenty of music followed.

We were also entertained by Wendy in her rendition of a Tibetan dance. Wendy recently won first place in the Freshman Talent Night as well as the big competition in Chengdu back in September. She is a professional dancer.

More Christmas Carols followed with the class joining in.

The Christmas caroling was followed by two students demonstrating their talents in Chinese caligraphy. Both proved to be experts at this difficult art form.

Mr. Joe did his thing with his harmonica. Although he did not play a Christmas Carol, he did entertain us with a popular tune.

More singing and more caroling continued in the spirit of Christmas. The excitement was increasing as we moved toward the expectations of the gift exchange.

Our own Magician gave us a lot of tricks to try to figure out. He also was a great comedian as well.

More successful magic tricks!

The official Christmas Card on the projector with a huge MERRY CHRISTMAS amidst the singing and the eating and the many smiles.

More singing. More singing. When will we get to open our presents?

The time had arrived and everyone drew a number to identify their 2008 Christmas gifts. One of the students acted as our Christmas trees with lots of tinsel thrown on her for good measure.

A great Christmas gift made her happy!

I received the results of the two Chinese calligraphy demonstrations to celebrate this year's joyous season!

Jewelry is always good for Christmas!

A Chocolate Christmas makes one feel loved!

A drinking glass made Mr. Taunis feel loved as well.

Two very happy students with their presents.

Mr. Yao figured this was a great gift and showed his happiness with a quick dance of joy!

Our student Christmas tree also was overjoyed with her cute little "whateveritis." She had a great time be our mobile Christmas tree.

Apples for Christmas! After he gets tired of looking at them, he can always eat them.

She was not sure what it was going to be, but she was happy to get it.

After opening the box, a bunch of candy fell out. Sweets are always appropriate for such a sweet student.

He told me this was a great gift. Of course, I had no idea what it was. Maybe some kind of notebook.

He had no idea what was in the box, but whatever it was would be great. The Christmas spirit at work!

Joe got this little toy dog or cat or something. Sooo cute for such a guy like Joe!

Our Magician ended up with the gift Sunee brought back from Thailand. A great looking T-shirt from Thailand. Impressive, right?

Games followed the exchanging of gifts with everyone joining in the various schemes and themes.

The students were having too much fun. That was obvious.

A picture with the teacher forming a weird sized heart. I have seen this often when students take pictures of each other.

Cecilia, a student from Emei City, insisted she get her picture taken with me. Love her name, don't you?

Here I am being told what my calligraphy scrolls mean.

The students must have heard about Sunee's calligraphy studies.

Near the end of the party, we broke out this beautiful cake.

I did the first cut but then Susie took care of the rest.

She did a good and fair job of equally dividing the Christmas cake up among the students.

More student portraits with their teacher.

I took a lot of these but could only fit in a few.

And finally the class photo just before the class ended. I had to run quickly to insure I would be in the picture. What a great party this freshmen class organized and carried out. Merry Christmas was really merry that morning.
